School

Seatoun School was established in 1916 as a ‘side school' to Worser Bay. In 1921 it became a school in its own right and in April 2002 it was re-established about a kilometre away from the original site ,in an award winning new facility on the old Fort Dorset army base.

The school has a long tradition of being a focal point in the local community and enjoys a high level of community involvement and support.  We are a decile 10, full primary school, catering for children from Year 1 to Year 8. Whilst predominately NZ European, our multicultural roll reflects the Eastern Suburbs, with children from Maori, Pacific Island, Indian, European, North Americian, Chinese and Asian backgrounds attending the school.  We are extremely proud of the safe, caring, family environment that has been created.

The school is built within metres of the entrance to Wellington Harbour.  It is a glorious site with an extensive grass playing field complete with a number of exciting fitness stations around its parameter.  We also have extensive hard surface playing areas, junior and senior adventure playgroungs and a beautiful 'Wiggly Wobbly' garden landscaped to emulate the shoreline.

In addition to a magnificant hall, our BMW Arts and Technology Centre incorporates a purpose built art/technology room, drama/music room and a cooking room with a capacity for up to 20 children to make dishes that may include produce harvested from our school gardens.
